The annual colourful and creative kickoff to the summer season is just around the corner in Crystal Beach, as locals and visitors alike are invited to take part in the community celebration.
On Saturday, May 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Advancing Crystal Beach (ACB) will host “Umbrella Market Stroll”.
Timed to coincide with the popular Canadian May long weekend, affectionately known as the 2/4 weekend, the event will see participating businesses decked out with uniquely decorated umbrellas, each designed to catch the eye. ACB will provide businesses with umbrellas and creative guidelines, encouraging participants to let their imaginations run wild.
The stroll is designed to bring foot traffic throughout the entire business area, inviting visitors to wander from shop to shop. It’s a simple concept with a big goal: celebrate local businesses while welcoming the community into the heart of Crystal Beach ahead of the busy summer months.
Adding a friendly competitive twist, two volunteers from Friends of Crystal Beach (FOCB) will judge the entries, selecting winners in both the participant and business categories. Prizes have been gathered for the top entries, with the winning business receiving an especially valuable reward: an ACB membership and free advertising for a full year in the ACB brochure.
Event organizer Hope Elliott says the Umbrella Market Stroll is all about bringing people together in a fun, lighthearted way.
“This is a chance to showcase the creativity of our business community while giving residents and visitors a reason to explore everything Crystal Beach has to offer,” Elliott shared. “We’re really looking forward to seeing the street come alive with colour.”
Sanctioned by the Crystal Beach BIA, the event is expected to draw families, shoppers and weekend visitors eager to enjoy the festive atmosphere. With spring in full swing and summer just around the corner, the timing couldn’t be better.
Whether you’re browsing the shops or snapping photos of the decorations, the Umbrella Market Stroll is a cheerful start to the season.
