On behalf of Lackawanna Products Corp. and Tunney Murchie, the owner of Lackawanna Products, a Scholarship has been set up in memory of Tony Passero and his dedication to hockey in Fort Erie. This will be the first year we have introduced this award, and we will be awarding a graduating REP hockey player from the program a $2000 scholarship towards their post-secondary studies. As the Human Resources Manager with Lackawanna Products, and the Vice President of Rep Hockey for GFEMHA, David Kelly worked alongside the Murchie family and the board of Directors with GFEMHA to introduce this new scholarship opportunity.
The Tony Passero Memorial Scholarship
The Tony Passero Scholarship is a distinguished award established to honor a Greater Fort Erie Minor Hockey player who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication, and community pride. This scholarship is specifically for a player who has been involved in rep hockey with Fort Erie and embodies the spirit of the game, both on and off the ice. The scholarship will be awarded to a player who will be moving on to post-secondary education in a recognized University, College, or Trade School.
Sponsored by Tunney Murchie, Lackawanna Products Corp. and the Murchie family, the scholarship celebrates the deep friendship formed between Tony Passero and the Murchie family through their shared love of hockey. The award highlights the impact of this bond. It recognizes a player who reflects the qualities that Tony Passero held dear—hard work, sportsmanship, and a commitment to the Fort Erie community.
The recipient of the Tony Passero Scholarship will be someone who excels in hockey and shows strong leadership on the team and in their local community. They are role models who demonstrate dedication to the sport and actively participate in community initiatives, upholding the values of teamwork, respect, and pride in Fort Erie.
This scholarship is a tribute to Tony Passero’s lasting influence on the local hockey scene and encourages young players to continue fostering the friendships and values that make hockey such a special part of their lives. Through the generosity of the Murchie family, the scholarship ensures that Tony’s legacy lives on through the next generation of Fort Erie hockey players.
