A generous gift from the estate of Miss Dorothy Sherk made it possible for Niagara Christian Collegiate (NCC) to build a new Student Service Centre which was dedicated on April 26 with 14 members of Dorothy’s family, alumni, and Mayor Wayne Redekop in attendance.
Scott Herron, president and chief executive officer – and an alumnus of 1991 – opened the ceremony. He talked about how this new centre will help students reach their full potential for years to come.
The Mayor told the assemblage about Dorothy’s inspirational story, how she didn’t see barriers and helped pave the way for women in leadership roles around the community.
Words were shared from NCC’s principal Chris Baird, director of student services Rachel Peters, resource teachers Martha Giles and Michelle Barlow. Finishing up the speeches was Andrew Thompson who spoke on behalf of Dorothy’s family.
A prayer of dedication and a ribbon-cutting followed. The guests were then offered a tour of the new centre and a luncheon to end the day.
