Fort Erie residents swarmed to the new McDonald’s in Ridgeway on July 24th, enjoying fresh fries and cold drinks during the restaurant’s low-key grand opening. Crew members were busy with final inspections in the early afternoon, with doors officially opening just after 3:00 p.m. Over 150 people attended the event, taking advantage of special opening deals like 2 for $6.98 Egg McMuffins, $6.99 meal deals, and $1.00 ice cream cones, all available until August 18th.
In addition to offering enticing deals, the new McDonald’s supported a local cause. From July 24th to July 26th, a portion of the proceeds from every McMuffin sandwich and meal sold was donated to Feed Niagara, aiming to combat food insecurity in the region.
The arrival of McDonald’s has sparked a range of reactions among Ridgeway and Crystal Beach residents. While some are concerned about potential increases in traffic in the already bustling beach town, others are excited about the job opportunities the restaurant has created and the convenience of having a late-night food option nearby.
The new McDonald’s is open daily until 11:00 p.m., with its drive-thru operating 24 hours a day. This makes it the first fast-food chain in Fort Erie to offer all-night service, which is expected to be particularly popular with night owls and those in need of a quick meal at any hour.
Despite some concerns, the atmosphere at the opening was one of excitement and curiosity. Families, teenagers, and long-time residents gathered to enjoy familiar menu items and connect with neighbours. The grand opening deals and the charity fundraiser contributed to a festive vibe, drawing a diverse crowd eager to experience the community’s latest addition.
As the new McDonald’s establishes itself in the community, its influence on local dynamics will be closely watched. The restaurant’s impact on traffic and local businesses will likely remain a topic of discussion among residents.
For now, the focus is on the positives: affordable meals, job creation, and a new spot for late-night cravings. Fort Erie’s new McDonald’s represents not just a place to grab a quick bite but also a symbol of growth and change in the area, bringing both challenges and opportunities for the local community.
