The Rockey family at Mae’s Place Restaurant and Catering, 2568 Stevensville Rd., Stevensville is celebrating 50 years of business this month.
A Facebook post read, “Thank you to all of our wonderful customers, many of who have become dear friends over the years. We are so lucky to belong to the Stevensville community for so long.”
It All Started With Mae.
Mae Rockey was an industrious lady, opening her first restaurant with her mother during World War II when she was only 16 years old. She owned and sold many restaurants in Fort Erie before finally opening up Mae’s Place in Stevensville and leaving it as her legacy.
Mae’s son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren have been striving to keep up the family tradition for 45 years now.
Community First
According to the restaurant’s website, Mae’s Place makes a point of putting the community first by sponsoring and to catering local fundraisers, donating food or serving discount food to local schools, and purchasing produce from local farmers when available.
Mae’s Place will be celebrating their hard work and accomplishments on Tuesday, December 20.
