“Let’s celebrate for no reason!” What a great statement. Although this is what you will read on the restaurant’s website, the Lighthouse has more than one reason to celebrate these days.
Located at 4301 Niagara Parkway, Stevensville, on the corner of the Niagara Parkway and Black Creek Road, this hidden gem overlooking the Niagara River has been around for nearly two centuries.
Dating back to the 1800s, the historic, heritage location gives those who visit the Lighthouse Restaurant on the Parkway an experience like no other.
The restaurant opened its doors one year ago on August 21st under new ownership so the first celebration is a one-year anniversary. And that was no ordinary year.
The second celebration is an award.
On July 7th, Chef Harminder, the owner of the restaurant, posted on Facebook, “Honoured and thrilled to win a Niagara 40 Under 40 Business Achievement Award 2022. Thanks to all the patrons, family, friends and judges who supported me.”
Chef Harminder Singh has trained in French & Indian cuisine. He opened his first restaurant, Coriander Green, in Oakville in 2005 at the age of 23. He ventured into several food related businesses and had his own cooking show.
After serving nearly two decades in the GTA, Chef Harminder expanded to the Niagara Region, opening the Lighthouse on the Parkway Restaurant.
“We love this area. That’s why we ended up buying the Lighthouse property.” Harminder shared his thoughts about adjusting to the small town / rural community dynamics after years of doing business in the city. “We like the location and we wanted to bring something new and exciting to the community. A lot of new houses are coming. A lot of people come from the city of Toronto, Oakville, and Burlington. So, we have something for everyone. Our menu has a wide variety for every palate.” From pizza and cheeseburgers to curry dishes. From fish and chips and kinds of pasta to biryanis.
Singh announced, “We’ve opened up a small variety store on the side of the building. This is a new addition.”
When talking about the history of the building. Harminder said they’ve been doing some research and is interested in connecting with others who have information about the building and property. “I’ve got some old pictures of the building hanging in the restaurant.”
Singh, his family and staff would like to thank the community. “Stevensville, Fort Erie, Ridgeway, Crystal Beach, Port Colborne and Welland, we are overwhelmed with your support. “
With expertise and experience, the Lighthouse Restaurant on the Parkway plans to create an establishment that continues to make history.
