Gilmore Lodge Community Celebrates an End to an Era

September 28, 2023, VOL. 5 ISSUE 2

On Sept. 17, staff at Gilmore Lodge hosted a Farewell Open House for the friends, families, staff, volunteers, and residents whose lives have been impacted by the walls and people within the long-term care home for 35 years.

The Farewell Open House was filled with laughter, live music, familiar faces, refreshments, and freshly baked cookies. While enjoying the entertainment and conversations with old friends, event attendees took the opportunity to look through a collection of photo albums capturing cherished memories for those touched by Gilmore Lodge for over three decades.

“It [Gilmore Lodge] means everything to me. It is where I live. I love this place. I love it a lot,” said Lesley Ward, Gilmore Lodge resident.

Gilmore Lodge opened its doors in September 1988 as an 80-bed long-term care home dedicated to enriching the lives of its residents by providing high-quality and compassionate care.

In February 2024, residents will be moving into a newly redeveloped Gilmore Lodge at 200 Garrison Rd., Fort Erie. The new Gilmore Lodge will be a three-story, non-combustible structure that includes 160 long-term care beds and a Seniors Community Hub.

“I am thrilled to bits about the new home. I am amazed at the new building. I will be closer to things in the community and closer to my family at the new home,” said Ward.

To continue supporting the health and well-being of the residents and staff who will be living and working in the new facility, the project team will also be pursuing WELL Silver certification under the WELL Building Standard. The WELL Building Standard uses a holistic approach and is focused on enhancing people’s health and well-being through the built environment.

“The relationship and excellent care will continue to thrive in a new building, with larger more comfortable spaces for residents, while offering staff an efficient workplace where they can continue to provide excellent resident experiences,” said Beth Plato-Giles, Administrator, Gilmore Lodge.

More information about the new Gilmore Lodge redevelopment is available on the Niagara Region website.
