Four candidates for mayor; two councillors to be acclaimed as several races change
The field is now set for Fort Erie’s 2026 municipal and school board elections following the August 21 deadline for candidates to withdraw from the race.
Four candidates will compete for mayor: Tom Insinna, Juan Liu, Wayne Redekop and Mike Campbell.
There are contested races in four of Fort Erie’s six wards, while two councillors will be acclaimed.
In Ward 1, George McDermott is now the sole candidate following the withdrawal of another candidate. McDermott will be acclaimed.
Ward 2 remains a two-person race between Nick Dubanow and Jon Nadeau.
Ward 3 has three candidates: Darren Flagg, Jennifer Priestley and Andrew Holdsworth.
Ward 4 has four candidates: Joan Christensen, Matt Paul, Daniel Turner and Tavis McGlashan.
Ward 5 also has four candidates: Tom Lewis, Thomas Mete, Scott Boumeester and Kassandra Ryerson.
In Ward 6, Ann-Marie Noyes is the sole candidate and will be acclaimed.
School board races
There has also been a change in the school board race since candidates were first announced.
For the English-language Public District School Board, three candidates remain: Susan Jovanovic, Keith Sutherland and Steve Webb. Owen Riel, who had previously registered as a candidate, has withdrawn from the race.
Danny DiLorenzo is the sole candidate for the English-language Catholic District School Board.
For the French-language Public School Board (Conseil scolaire Viamonde), the candidates listed are Amanda Leduc, Marcel Tikeng and Matthew Julian Graham.
Jean Max Philome is the sole candidate for the French-language Catholic School Board (Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir).
The final certified candidate list means voters will choose a mayor, councillors in Wards 2 through 5, and the applicable school board trustees on the October 26 ballot. Voters in Wards 1 and 6 will not have a councillor race because the sole candidates will be acclaimed.
The 2026 municipal election is Monday, October 26. Voters will also have the option of voting online during the Town’s designated internet voting period.
