Fort Erie Fire Chief Ed Melanson said he estimated that a fire caused about $150,000 to a home.
Crews from Stations 2, 3, 4 and 5 responded to a reported structure fire at 92 Central Ave. at 9:48 p.m. on Thursday.
Melanson said the fire started in the garage and migrated into the house.
“There was a common garage shared between 92 and 96 Central (Ave.) and there was slight exterior damage to the neighbouring home just from the heat,” the fire chief said.
Crews battled the blaze and brought it under control in about an hour and a half.
“We had it under control quickly, but there were a lot of hot spots, so it took a while to get it out. The initial knock-down to get the fire out was fast though,” Melanson said.
There were no injuries to firefighters, or to the residents who were home at the time the fire occurred.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal.
