Cows Come Home: A TV Series Filmed In Fort Erie, Wrapped Up and Ready To Go!

Christine Whelan, FEO, May 29, 2025, VOL. 6 ISSUE 19

For the last eight months, Cows Come Home, a TV series filmed in several Greater Fort Erie area locations, has been in post-production and is almost ready for its grand entrance into the world.

Katie Uhlmann, co-creator and director, expressed, “It’s been really exciting to see things come together, working with our editor, Hari Ramesh, and the post team at Rolling Pictures.

“You can be on set and have an amazing time, and it can be the best experience, but it’s not until you get to the editing room that you see whether or not what you’ve made is working. Once you start putting the puzzle together, you see if it fits.” Adding, “We think it’s really special.”

For Lindsey Middleton, co-creator and leading actor, the editing phase was a new experience. “Katie was much more involved in the post-production part, but it was exciting for me to be welcomed into that world, as I didn’t know much of that side of things. I learned so much watching everything come together. How sound works and what you can do with it. And when you throw colour on top of what’s already been filmed, how you can make it warmer or cooler. It was an amazing education.

“Once we added the music into everything, it changed and brought it to life in a new way. We’re fortunate to work with Mark Watson of Watson Entertainment, representing several Juno-nominated and Juno-award-winning Canadian artists. We’re fortunate enough to have their original songs in the show.”

Katie listed some musicians: “Madison Violet performs our theme music.” Along with Julian Taylor and David Francey, they are all Juno winners or nominees and are featured heavily in the show.

“And those are just a few. It’s incredible, the soul that these musicians brought to the show.”

Originally from Trenton, Katie commented in gratitude, “From beginning to end, the community support in Fort Erie and the support of our funders, every person who worked on this project put their heart, soul and enthusiasm into it. Now, seeing this final product that has taken three years, from start to finish, we’re very proud. We can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

Lindsey, who grew up in small-town Ridgeway, exclaimed, “It’s just been such a great experience, making this thing in Small-town, Ontario, Canada, all-Canadian crew, all-Canadian musicians. And it feels like a strong Canadian story full of love, heart and laughter.”

“Sometimes we joke that we made the show out of enthusiasm.” They both laughed. “We’re just two small-town girls who wanted to make something and just convinced many people to do it with us.”

Lindsey shared an editing moment. “I was going through the credits and had this moment. There are so many names. It’s impactful to see so many people. So many from Fort Erie. So many people I’ve known since I was a baby.” Adding, “It will never be lost on us the generosity that was given, the enthusiasm that was given us, just two girls with the dream. Everyone had said, ‘Heck yes, how can we help?’ over and over again. It was a pretty surreal moment.”

They feel every part, every person, whether it’s someone with a big part, one line, or behind the scenes, matters. It’s a team effort, and every single person matters.

The series’ executive producers are David Carruthers, Keri Ferencz, Lindsey Middleton—all three from Niagara—Hari Ramesh, and Katie Uhlmann.

Cows Come Home will be available starting June 11th. All six episodes will be on Bell Fibe TV1. It can also be accessed through the Fibe TV1 app. Listen to Fort Erie Radio for a promo ad for the series.

“Katie and I are planning on doing a Fort Erie screening around the anniversary of the shooting. So, it will be either late September or early October. We’re so excited to bring the show home and celebrate with everyone. We’re looking forward to getting together and watching it together.”
