Cowboys show Xtreme skill

Ben Vander Meer of Montasola Farms in Stevensville hosted the Ontario Xtreme Cowboy event Sunday for the third time since the event series started in 2014.

Forty-seven horse and rider teams from youth to old pros exhibited their cowboy skills through a course of farm-type and trail obstacles with judging based on horsemanship and speed.

Any type of horse is qualified to compete and Sunday’s program included retired show, purebreds and thoroughbreds.

Winners were Doug Krzyizek and Hang Ten at Midnight who won in three divisions (pro, non-pro and ride smart), Amanda Moore and Splash of Glass (green horse division), Jassen Phillips and Sisco (intermediate), Josie Rowling and Bent Over Backwards (youth), Tanya Waite and Little Miss Shaundi (novice).

The farm will also hold six jumper events through the summer and fall and a barrel racing event in July.

Laikyn West and her horse Bent Over Backwards competed in the non-pro division of the Extreme Cowboy obstacle course Sunday at Montasola Farms in Stevensville.
