BREAKING: Canada Post Suspends Mail Delivery Nationwide Due to CUPW Strike

September 25, 2025

Today, Canada Post has announced that due to a national strike launched by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), its operations have come to a halt across the country. This strike is in response to recent government announcements about Canada Post’s transformation plans, which CUPW strongly opposes.

As a result, all mail and parcel processing and delivery has been suspended, and some post offices may close temporarily. Canada Post has stated that no new items will be accepted into their system during the strike. Any mail or packages already in transit will be held safely and delivered as soon as operations resume, but Canadians should expect delays even after the strike ends.

What this  Means in Simple Terms

  • The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has launched a nationwide strike.
  • As a result, Canada Post has shut down all mail and parcel delivery; nothing will be picked up, processed, or delivered during the strike.
  • Some post offices may also close temporarily.
  • Mail already in the system will be held securely and delivered as soon as operations resume.
  • However, important government cheques (like pensions or benefits) and live animals will still be delivered.
  • No new mail (like newspapers or parcels) will be accepted by Canada Post during the strike.

We will continue to deliver our newspaper bundles to over 50 local businesses and community hubs across town.
We’ll restock regularly, ensuring copies are available throughout the strike.
Our local presence remains strong, and our readers know where to find us.

We’ll be posting regular updates here on the strike and its impact on delivery, and we’re already working on additional ways to get the paper into your hands.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. Our mission to inform, connect, and celebrate our community doesn’t stop, no matter what happens at the post office.
