Young performers were Born to Rock

By Sherry Torkos

It was a rockin’ Mother’s Day weekend as 116 children from Down the Rabbit Hole Theatre Company performed in “Born to Rock” to packed audiences at the Crystal Ridge Community Centre last Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

“Born to Rock” took audiences back to the 1980s, a time of acid wash jeans, big hair, loud rebellious music and new boundaries.

Featuring passionate performances of songs by musical legends Queen, Kiss, Steppenwolf, Joan Jett, Tom Petty, Twisted Sister, the Cranberries, and others, audiences were singing, cheering and clamouring for more.

As parents, we are always proud of our children and their abilities, but these children are truly special – they are enthusiastic about theatre and give their heart and soul in their performances. Audiences are continually amazed by the level of talent these kids in our community.

DTRH Theatre Co. is run by Anastasia Boake and Ashley Krawczyk. Based in Ridgeway, they have been offering theatre classes to children in our community for six years. Classes are open to children ages 4 and older.

Sessions run for 10 weeks with four showcase public performances and at the end.

“Born To Rock” along with all other productions by DTRH Theatre Co. are written, produced and directed by Anastasia and Ashley.

Musical director, Greg Kennedy, works with the children as they prepare their musical numbers and helps them fine-tune their skills in piano, guitar, ukulele and other instruments.

During classes children are encouraged to express themselves with words, songs, improvisation, and dramatic play, to build confidence and develop their musical and artistic skills.

Anastasia and Ashley foster team spirit and create an environment where children learn to support, encourage and help fellow classmates.

Ask any parent whose children have participated with DTRH and you will hear rave reviews and words of gratitude and appreciation.

Their mission is “to provide an opportunity for children to experience theatre arts in a creative, nurturing and exhilarating environment.”
